Lessons
Unit 3 — Number, Shape, Measures and Relationships
- Number — Percentages, Ratios, Rates and Estimation in Real Life (free) — Use percentages, ratios, rates and estimation to solve everyday and workplace problems such as discounts, GST, pay rates and mixing ratios.
- Shape — 2D and 3D Shapes, Symmetry and Design in Everyday Contexts (free) — Recognise, describe and use properties of 2D and 3D shapes, symmetry and nets in design, construction and packaging.
- Quantity and Measures — Units, Conversions, Perimeter, Area and Volume (free) — Measure and calculate length, area, volume, capacity, mass and time, converting units accurately for practical tasks.
- Relationships — Formulas, Graphs and Comparing Options (free) — Use formulas, tables and graphs to model relationships such as costs, pay and phone plans, and decide which option is best.
Unit 4 — Direction, Data, Uncertainty and Systematics
- Dimension and Direction — Maps, Scale, Plans and Navigation — Read and use maps, scale drawings, floor plans and directions (compass bearings, grid references) to plan routes and spaces.
- Data — Collecting, Displaying and Interpreting Information — Collect, organise, display and interpret data using suitable graphs and summary statistics, and critically evaluate data presented in the media.
- Uncertainty — Chance, Risk and Probability in Everyday Decisions — Describe and calculate probabilities, interpret risk and odds, and use them to make informed decisions in contexts such as insurance, weather and gambling.
- Systematics — Planning, Scheduling and Running a Numeracy Investigation — Use systematic methods — schedules, timetables, checklists, flowcharts and spreadsheets — to plan tasks, and carry out a real-life numeracy investigation using a problem-solving cycle.
